What's up everybody! It's DJ Chunsa in the house!!! This is my first post so I decided to dedicate it by showing my love to YG Family. My encounter with YG Family started when I laid eyes on Se7en and his music video "Passion." I wasn't even aware that he's one of the artist from the same label with Jinusean, 1Tym, Lexy, Wheesung (his early, debut years), and Masta Wu until I saw him in one of Jinusean's MV "Phone Number."
I still wasn't that interested with YG Family until I stumbled across a music video by Perry called "Storm" that featured the young G-Dragon & Masta Wu. GD back then was so chubby and adorable (I instantly remembered him right away when he debuted with BB) while Masta Wu's rapping skills was the bomb. More importantly, I was awed by Perry's music. So I decided to dig more about him that finally led me to the whole YG Family crew.
Because of my love for hip-hop, I started listening to Masta Wu, Jinusean, 1Tym (I love you Teddy and Danny)... and even their 1st girl-group Swi.T. I would have liked the girs but then they looked like a rip-off of TLC so that became the reason why they never made it big. It was also thanks to this label that I got introduced to the soulful solo singer Gummy and powerhouse voices of Big Mama. Years later, they have Big Bang, 2NE1, along with newcomers Tablo and Psy.
Although we have these new-skool artists from YG Entertainment and they are raking all these money for the company (really, I'm a BB and 2NE1 fan), but I could not help but feel nostalgic over the old bad-ass beats of YG Family... their old hip-hop sound. I miss seeing Perry, Masta Wu, Jinusean and 1Tym in the limelight.
I'm pretty sure the old artists are contented doing the behind-the-scenes for YG - with Perry, Teddy and Baek-Kyoung producing some songs, Jinu and Sean taking care of YG's international businesses, and a few others who are on hiatus... but I would have liked it if everyone from the agency, including Yang Goon himself, would show the new artists their swagger on stage and how it's done. But this is all just wishful thinking and they're not getting younger, so I'm contented to see their old MVs & live stages on Youtube and hear their music through Big B Radio.
This seems very long now, so I'll end it with two of my fave old-school music videos featuring the awesome YG Family!!!
